Sheffield United Facing More Struggles Ahead of Ipswich Clash, Says EFL Expert David Prutton
Sheffield United look set for continued misery at the foot of the Championship table when they travel to face Ipswich Town, according to EFL pundit David Prutton.
The Blades have endured a nightmare start to the season under new manager Rubén Sellés, suffering four straight defeats and failing to register a single point.
Things aren’t likely to get easier for the Spaniard, as his team heads to Portman Road on Friday to take on one of the early promotion favourites.
While Ipswich Town have yet to record a win themselves this season, they’ve managed to pick up three points from three draws, along with a single loss to Preston North End.
Prutton Concerned Over Sheffield United’s Form and Managerial Fit
Speaking on the Essential EFL Podcast, Prutton expressed concern about Sellés’ early tenure at Bramall Lane, suggesting the former Southampton boss has yet to connect with the team.
“They’re nowhere near it at the moment,” Prutton said. “The managerial change hasn’t clicked. The image of him in front of the away end at Boro… I hope that doesn’t come back to haunt him. Right now, they just don’t seem to be in sync. That has to change.”
Confidence in Ipswich’s Promotion Credentials
Prutton struck a far more optimistic tone when assessing Ipswich Town, highlighting their experience and stability under manager Kieran McKenna.
“With Kieran and Ipswich, there’s a lot of know-how when it comes to climbing out of the Championship,” said the former Nottingham Forest midfielder. “They’re probably just warming into the season. The results haven’t been spectacular, but there’s a belief in Kieran’s ability to deliver.”
Prediction: Ipswich to Take the Points
Looking ahead to Friday’s clash, Prutton is backing Ipswich to secure a comfortable win.
“There are similarities between the two sides, but also clear differences. I’m going for a 2-0 win for Ipswich,” he predicted.
A victory at Portman Road would be a significant lift for Sellés and could help kickstart United’s season.
However, if the Blades suffer a fifth consecutive defeat and remain bottom of the table, the pressure on the new manager will undoubtedly intensify.
