Shearer Applauds Mukiele’s Defensive Display
Shearer once again praised Sunderland’s effort, particularly highlighting the performance of Nordi Mukiele.
The versatile defender, signed from Paris Saint-Germain for just £12 million, delivered a standout performance that earned him a spot in Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week.
“Only his third Premier League appearance, and with his team down to 10 men after just 33 minutes, Mukiele delivered a defensive masterclass,” Shearer noted. “Sunderland earned a well-deserved point, and he was at the heart of it.”
Mukiele brings top-level experience to Wearside, having won five trophies during his time at PSG. Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman described him as a player with “rare athletic qualities,” and his recent performances have backed up that statement.
Mukiele Shines Against Villa
Mukiele not only anchored the defense impressively but also created more chances than any other player on the pitch—despite playing as a central defender in Le Bris’ back four. His composure on the ball and strength in duels were vital, especially after Reinildo was sent off just past the half-hour mark.
A true manager’s asset, Mukiele is capable of playing across the back line and pushing forward when needed.
Since missing the season opener against Burnley, he has completed the full 90 minutes in every league game, showing consistency and quality throughout.
At this rate, it seems inevitable that Mukiele will feature in Shearer’s Team of the Week again before long.
