Nottingham Forest Mark European Return with Thrilling 2-2 Draw Against Real Betis
Nottingham Forest returned to European action for the first time in 30 years with a dramatic 2-2 draw away at Real Betis in Seville.
Although Forest are considered one of the frontrunners in this season’s Europa League, they were handed a tough opener against a seasoned Betis side well-versed in UEFA competition—and that experience was immediately evident.
Just 15 minutes in, Betis punished Forest on the counterattack, with Cedric Bakambu finding the net to give the hosts the lead. However, Forest responded swiftly, with the in-form Igor Jesus slotting home an equaliser just three minutes later.
Jesus wasn’t done there. On 23 minutes, he rose highest to head in Douglas Luiz’s corner, completing a quick turnaround in what was a breathless opening spell. Forest looked the stronger side for the rest of the half and had chances to extend their lead.
After the break, Forest began to concede more possession than manager Ange Postecoglou would’ve liked. Their resistance eventually broke with just five minutes remaining, as Antony struck the equaliser for Betis to deny Forest a famous win.
