Glasner Hails Team Spirit After Palace’s Dramatic Win Over Liverpool

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner praised his side’s performance after a thrilling 2-1 victory against league leaders and reigning champions Liverpool at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Reflecting on the game, Glasner — who took over at Palace in February 2024 — said:
“The first half was a joy to watch — the best we’ve played since I arrived. But when you’re only one goal ahead, especially against a team like Liverpool, you always know they can come back. They’ve scored a lot of late goals recently.”

He acknowledged the pressure his team faced in the second half:
“We were under huge pressure, and at times we were lucky — Dean Henderson made some crucial saves.

When they equalised in the 90th minute, it could have gone either way, but I’m incredibly proud that we stayed composed and responded so well.”

“Getting the winner after that moment made me truly proud of the entire squad. It was a complete team effort and I’m delighted.”

With Palace now unbeaten in 18 matches, Glasner added:
“I hope the run continues. I’ve told the players that when you focus only on staying unbeaten, you start playing defensively. That’s not our mindset — we want to win games.

“Of course, if a draw happens, we’ll take it. If we lose, we move on. But the goal is always to go out and win.”

Recalling a past moment, Glasner joked:
“When we beat Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield, I told the players I’m over 50 — they need to think about my heart! I need to be able to relax sooner. But this is what makes football so special, especially with our fans behind us.”

“I wanted to run to the players after the winner, but after five yards I remembered I once got a yellow card for that — and had to pay a fine. Plus, my wife wasn’t happy about it! So I held back — probably for the best.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted Palace were the better team, especially early on:
“Palace could have been two or three goals up in the first half. They created several excellent chances, and we were lucky Alisson kept us in the game.”

“We improved after the break and created chances — not many teams do that here — but conceding another goal from a set piece was frustrating. On the balance of play, Palace deserved to win.”
