Fabrizio Romano Shares ‘Important’ Russell Martin Sack Update at Rangers

Fabrizio Romano Provides Update on Rangers Boss Russell Martin After Europa League Defeat

Fabrizio Romano has offered an update on Russell Martin’s future at Rangers following their 2-1 loss to Sturm Graz, as shared in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.

Rangers were convincingly beaten once again in Europe, continuing a poor run of form that has put increasing pressure on Martin, who has struggled since taking over at Ibrox this summer.

Supporters have been calling for his dismissal for weeks. The club has secured just one win in the Scottish Premiership so far, and their European performances have been disappointing. Despite this, the Rangers board has so far stood by the former Southampton boss.

Romano: “This Weekend’s Game is Crucial”

Romano highlighted that Sunday’s match against Falkirk, the last before the international break, could prove decisive for Martin’s future.

“It’s gonna be important for sure, as the situation is getting hard also with the fans,” Romano said.

Fan unrest has been building since Martin’s appointment, with many opposed to his hiring from the outset. During a recent match against Hibernian, play was temporarily halted after supporters threw tennis balls onto the pitch in protest. Banners have also been displayed calling for both Martin and CEO James Bisgrove to leave.

Despite the pressure, the club has held off making any changes, perhaps due in part to a busy summer that saw 13 new players arrive and several key departures.

Martin hasn’t helped his own cause, clashing publicly with popular midfielder Nicolas Raskin earlier in the season. He’s also remained rigid in his tactical approach, despite a lack of results.

After a humiliating 9-1 aggregate loss to Club Brugge in Champions League qualifying, Rangers have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the Europa League to Genk and Sturm Graz—matches fans expected them to win comfortably.
