Sunderland have taken major strides in the transfer market this week, headlined by the club-record signing of Habib Diarra and a flurry of ambitious moves across Europe.

Diarra has officially completed his medical in Paris and put pen to paper on a five-year deal. The 20-year-old Senegal international is reportedly set to earn around €330,000 per month—more than triple his previous salary. The landmark signing underlines Sunderland’s intent as they prepare for the 2025-26 Premier League season.

In addition, the club has secured a free transfer for experienced left-back Reinildo Mandava from Atlético Madrid. The 31-year-old becomes the latest arrival in what is shaping up to be a busy summer on Wearside.

Sunderland move for Real Madrid striker

Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Sunderland have submitted the strongest offer so far for Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia. The 21-year-old impressed during the Club World Cup, scoring twice and assisting once in three appearances. Sunderland’s proposal is believed to be a loan with an obligation to buy—contingent on Premier League survival—for a total package of €20 million (€15m + €5m in add-ons). Garcia has also netted 30 goals in 73 matches for Real Madrid Castilla, highlighting his promise.

Traore links – a familiar family tie

According to Corriere dello Sport, Sunderland are also showing interest in Bournemouth midfielder Hamed Traore—the older brother of Amad Diallo, a fan favourite from Sunderland’s 2022–23 campaign. The 25-year-old Ivorian has spent the last two seasons on loan at Auxerre and Napoli. Bournemouth are seeking around €16 million for his services, with a €12 million bid already lodged by a French club. Sunderland would face stiff competition from the likes of Fiorentina, Parma, Sassuolo, and Marseille.

Bulka still on the radar

Despite L’Équipe reporting that Saudi club Neom have reached an agreement with OGC Nice for goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, the player is yet to make a final call. Sunderland are still in the mix, with Foot Mercato suggesting the Premier League side hasn’t given up hope. Nice reportedly want around €20 million, and talks with Sunderland have taken place in recent days.

Cresswell valuation rising

Finally, Sunderland remain keen on England U21 centre-back Charlie Cresswell, but face growing competition. The Leeds United defender impressed during England’s recent U21 European Championship triumph, drawing attention from clubs including Atalanta and Como. Reports indicate Toulouse have placed an £18 million valuation on the 22-year-old, who remains under contract at Elland Road until 2028. His performances this summer have seen his stock rise considerably.
