James Maddison Takes a Swipe at Ipswich Town After Their Win Over Norwich City

James Maddison has aimed a cheeky dig at Ipswich Town following their recent 3-1 victory over rivals Norwich City in the East Anglian derby at Portman Road.

From the first whistle, Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich side looked the more dominant team, controlling possession and gradually wearing down Norwich’s defence. Their early pressure paid off when Cedric Kipre smashed in the opening goal from a corner.

Norwich responded quickly through Oscar Schwartau, whose long-range effort took a deflection and found its way past Alex Palmer to level the score.

Maddison Reacts to Ipswich’s Celebrations

The jubilant scenes in Suffolk didn’t go unnoticed by former Norwich City star James Maddison.

The England international, who made over 50 appearances for the Canaries between 2016 and 2018 before joining Leicester City, has always spoken fondly of his time at Carrow Road. He famously enjoyed a standout 2017/18 season, recording 14 goals and 8 assists, which earned him a move to the Premier League.

Maddison has never shied away from expressing his loyalty to Norwich. After their 1-0 win over Ipswich in April 2024 — a match decided by a Marcelino Núñez goal — he posted on social media:

“Just in case anyone needed reminding… East Anglia is & always will be yellow and green. 15 years now?”

But following Ipswich’s recent victory, one fan reminded Maddison of that post, replying:

“Any update on this?”

In true Maddison fashion, he responded:

“1 win in 16 years. Have some shame son.”

Can Ipswich Have the Last Laugh?

While Maddison was quick to downplay Ipswich’s win, the result was a significant morale boost for the Tractor Boys in what has otherwise been a challenging 2025.

Though the bragging rights have largely belonged to Norwich over the past decade and a half, this latest win could mark a turning point. McKenna’s side appears to be building momentum, and with a squad packed with quality, Ipswich could still mount a serious push up the table.

If Ipswich can maintain their form and finish the season strongly, they might just get the last laugh — leaving Maddison and his former club with little to celebrate as Norwich’s struggles continue.
