Nottingham Forest Sack Ange Postecoglou After Humiliating 3–0 Defeat to Chelsea

Nottingham Forest have parted ways with manager Ange Postecoglou just minutes after their 3–0 home defeat to Chelsea, bringing an abrupt end to the Australian’s turbulent tenure at the City Ground.

Postecoglou faced chants of “sacked in the morning” from the stands as Forest endured another disappointing performance that ultimately sealed his fate.

In an official statement released shortly after the final whistle, the club confirmed:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that, following a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time.”

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager failed to register a single win since taking charge in September, though there were flashes of promise during the first half against Chelsea. Forest started brightly, dominating early exchanges, but failed to take advantage of their opportunities before collapsing after the break.

Chelsea struck twice in quick succession, leaving the City Ground deflated. What began as vocal support from the home fans soon turned to frustration, with only the jubilant chants of the away supporters echoing around the stadium.

Boos followed as Postecoglou substituted Douglas Luiz for former Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, while the 60-year-old could only watch in disbelief as Reece James added Chelsea’s third goal. That prompted large sections of Forest fans to leave early, six minutes before the final whistle.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis, who was present in the stands, witnessed the defeat firsthand. Postecoglou’s dismissal marks Forest’s second managerial sacking of the season after Nuno Espirito Santo was let go earlier in the campaign.

Nuno had previously transformed Forest from relegation strugglers to surprise European contenders, narrowly missing out on a top-five finish last season. The club ultimately secured a Europa League place following Crystal Palace’s breach of UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules.

However, tensions between Nuno and Marinakis led to his departure, paving the way for Postecoglou’s ill-fated appointment. Now, with Forest languishing in 17th place and winless since the Premier League’s opening day, the club once again find themselves searching for a new manager amid growing unrest among supporters.
