“It’s unacceptable”- Norwich Boss Liam Manning Breaks Silence on His Future Ahead of Crucial Sheffield Wednesday Showdown

Norwich City head coach Liam Manning is facing increasing pressure ahead of his team’s midweek Championship clash against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The Canaries fell to their sixth consecutive league defeat on Saturday, losing 2–0 to Hull City at Carrow Road. The result leaves Norwich just one place above Wednesday in the table, with the team enduring a worrying slump in form.

Manning, who was appointed in June after being poached from Bristol City to replace Johannes Hoff Thorup, has overseen a difficult start to the season — with nine defeats in 13 league games and only two wins.

To make matters worse, Norwich have lost all seven home matches under his management in league and cup competitions.

Following the latest defeat, frustrated fans gathered outside the directors’ entrance to protest, demanding that both Manning and sporting director Ben Knapper step down.

Despite growing discontent among supporters and a winless run stretching back to late August, Manning insists he remains committed to fighting for his job and turning the club’s season around.

Speaking to The Pink Un, he said:

“It’s not acceptable to lose as many games as we have. I’ll keep fighting, but there will be discussions because something has to change.

We have to be honest with ourselves and look inwardly. The points return speaks for itself — it needs to change.

Mark [Attanasio, the club’s principal owner] has made it clear that everyone is accountable. Right now, nobody can say they’re delivering, so everyone shares responsibility for where we are.”

Looking Ahead to January

Though the season is still young, with just 13 matches played, Manning has hinted that the January transfer window could be pivotal in Norwich’s fight to avoid a shock drop to League One.

“Do we have enough to survive? Yes, I think so. January will be important in terms of what we can add.

We need players back — four or five of our starters are injured, which is a wider issue. Some should return in the next few weeks, which will give us a big boost. Getting Forson and Kvistgaarden back will help massively.

When you’re under pressure, you have to keep swinging and fighting, no matter the scoreline. That’s what disappoints me — we didn’t leave everything out there, and that’s something we have to change.”
