Thierno Barry Sends Emotional Message to Everton Fans After Touching Goodison Moment

Everton striker Thierno Barry has taken to social media to share an emotional message of gratitude with supporters — while also explaining the story behind his current profile picture.

The France Under-21 international, who joined the Toffees in July from Villarreal for £27 million, is still chasing his first goal for the club after 13 appearances. Barry enjoyed a prolific 2023/24 campaign, scoring 19 goals across spells with Basel and Villarreal, but is yet to open his account in England.

Barry came agonisingly close during Everton’s 2-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday. He registered his first shot on target and even found the back of the net — only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

His hard work and determination, however, didn’t go unnoticed. When manager David Moyes replaced him with Beto 12 minutes from time, Goodison Park rose to its feet in a powerful show of appreciation.

Clearly moved by the gesture, Barry later shared a heartfelt post with his 138,000 Instagram followers, writing:

“There are things that mean more than goals.
With my difficult start to the season without scoring, receiving an ovation from you today really warmed my heart and showed me that I’m on the right path.
Once again, thank you so much!”

The 23-year-old also addressed his profile picture, which shows him sitting dejected on the bench during last Monday’s match against Sunderland after missing a close-range chance from Jack Grealish’s cross.

Barry clarified:

“PS – Regarding my profile picture, there’s absolutely no disrespect towards anyone. I’m laughing at my own situation because sometimes it’s better to laugh than to cry. Staying positive is key — the best is yet to come.”

After the Fulham win, David Moyes praised both Barry and the home fans for their connection and support, saying:

“I think all the Evertonians know that both players are looking for confidence and support. The crowd were brilliant for Barry today, and he gave them something to believe in. He deserved that applause.

And look, nobody can question Beto’s work rate or attitude. What he did for us at the end of last season was outstanding. The supporters deserve great credit for helping these players keep their confidence up — it’s not easy being a striker when the goals aren’t coming.”
