Cameron Burgess has issued a message to Swansea City supporters following his unfortunate two own goals against his former team, Ipswich Town, yesterday.

The 30-year-old defender inadvertently put the ball into his own net twice in the second half of the Blues’ 4-1 victory—first from a Leif Davis shot and then off a Jens Cajuste cross.

Speaking on social media, Burgess wrote:

“I don’t usually post much online, and I’ll probably take this down soon, but I wanted to share a message with Swansea City fans who want to hear it.

I understand how much this club means to you and the pride you take in being part of it. As a player, I hear your criticism, and I won’t offer any excuses. I’m my own harshest critic, and my only goal is to make things right on the pitch by showing the standards you expect. — Cam”

Burgess, who played a pivotal role in Ipswich’s back-to-back promotions, opted against signing a new contract at Portman Road over the summer and joined Swansea as a free agent.

The Swans currently sit 18th in the Championship table as the third international break approaches.
