Relief for England and Crystal Palace as Marc Guehi Avoids Serious Injury

England and Crystal Palace supporters can finally breathe a sigh of relief after Thomas Tuchel confirmed that Marc Guehi has suffered no structural damage to his foot.

The update comes as welcome news following fears that the defender’s injury — sustained during Palace’s 3-1 Europa Conference League win over AZ Alkmaar last week — could have been far more serious.

Guehi was forced off late in that European clash after receiving a booking and subsequently missed Sunday’s goalless draw against Brighton & Hove Albion. His absence raised concerns, especially after Palace boss Oliver Glasner admitted over the weekend that his captain “can’t even walk.”

However, Tuchel’s latest remarks have provided much-needed reassurance for both club and country.

Tuchel Offers Positive Update

Speaking ahead of England’s World Cup qualifiers, Tuchel revealed that while Guehi remains in pain, the issue isn’t as severe as first feared.

“With Marc, it is very painful, but there is no structural damage, so it is all about the pain,” Tuchel said (via The Standard).
“There is a possibility that overnight, from one day to the next, we have a significant improvement. So we are working realistically towards the second game. If he is not in training on Friday or Saturday, we will not make him travel. Then he gets rest and treatment and can stay in London.”

As a result, Guehi will miss Thursday’s World Cup qualifier against Serbia, but there remains hope he could return for England’s final group game against Albania in Tirana on Sunday.

A Key Figure for Club and Country

Tuchel also praised Guehi’s professionalism and leadership qualities, calling him “one of the leaders” within the England camp.

The defender has become a cornerstone of both Palace’s and England’s back lines, earning admiration for his composure, maturity, and consistency.

With his current Palace contract set to expire next summer, speculation continues to swirl over his future, as several top clubs are reportedly eager to tempt him away from Selhurst Park.

For now, though, the focus remains on Guehi’s recovery — and the relief that his injury scare wasn’t as bad as first feared.
