Nasser Djiga could be on his way out of Wolves just six months after arriving at Molineux.
The Burkina Faso international joined the club in January from Red Star Belgrade in a £10 million deal. However, he’s now being considered for a loan move, with Scottish giants Rangers emerging as a potential destination.
Djiga has found first-team opportunities hard to come by, making only six appearances for Wolves since his arrival. In the second half of the 2024/25 season, he struggled to break into the back three ahead of the more established names—Toti Gomes, Emmanuel Agbadou, and Matt Doherty.
As a result, Wolves are reportedly open to sending him out on a temporary basis to gain more regular playing time. A move to Rangers would be a straight loan with no option to buy, and many Wolves fans view it as a good move for the 21-year-old’s development.
Despite his potential departure, Wolves do not plan to bring in a direct replacement. According to the Express & Star, the club will only look to sign another centre-back if another senior defender—like Santiago Bueno or Yerson Mosquera—leaves this summer.
Vitor Pereira, who steered the team to safety last season, often relied on experience in his defence and wasn’t inclined to rotate heavily during the relegation battle. Djiga saw limited minutes as a result, with Pereira even admitting he doesn’t believe in handing out “token” appearances.
With Yerson Mosquera expected to return fully fit for pre-season and Pereira keen to give him a proper chance, Djiga’s place in the pecking order has slipped further. Currently, he’s likely behind Agbadou, Toti, Doherty, Bueno, and Mosquera.
A loan spell at Rangers could provide Djiga with valuable experience, particularly in a competitive environment like the Scottish Premiership.
Given Wolves’ limited depth and Mosquera’s history of injuries, the club may benefit from including a mid-season recall clause in any loan agreement.
Overall, the move appears to be a sensible step for both Djiga’s development and Wolves’ squad management heading into the 2025/26 campaign.
