Sunderland skipper Granit Xhaka has been unexpectedly linked with a mid-season switch to Serie A giants Juventus, according to Italian reports. However, these claims have been firmly dismissed.

Italian outlet TuttoSport raised eyebrows among Sunderland fans on Tuesday, suggesting that Juventus—who attempted to sign the former Arsenal midfielder last summer—could renew their interest in the 33-year-old when the January transfer window opens.

Thankfully for Regis Le Bris and the Wearside faithful, the reality of Xhaka’s future leaves little room for doubt: the Swiss captain is staying put.

Xhaka Not Leaving Sunderland for Juventus

TuttoSport reported that Xhaka’s representatives may have considered leveraging Sunderland’s impressive start to the Premier League season to explore moves to Europe’s elite clubs, with Juventus reportedly viewing him as an attractive signing at around £17.5m.

The Italian outlet even suggested that Sunderland might not block a potential January exit, despite Xhaka only joining the club this summer.

However, these claims are purely speculative. At the Stadium of Light, Xhaka is considered an integral part of Sunderland’s revival in the top flight. The combative midfielder has featured in every minute of Sunderland’s campaign so far, contributing four goal involvements in 11 games.

His performances have helped the Black Cats claim three points at Chelsea and secure a last-minute draw at home against league leaders Arsenal.

Sky Sports News’ North East reporter Keith Downie confirmed that Xhaka is not for sale and has no intention of leaving the club.

“Sunderland will NOT be allowing Granit Xhaka to leave in January, and certainly not at that price,” Downie stated.
