Roy Keane slams Leeds’ Premier League prospects after poor Forest display

Roy Keane has delivered a harsh assessment of Leeds United’s chances this season, describing their recent performance against Nottingham Forest as “dreadful.”

The 3-1 defeat at the City Ground marked four losses in five games for Leeds, leaving Daniel Farke under intense pressure at Elland Road and the club just one point above the relegation zone, making him second-favourite in the “sack race.”

“Leeds are going down, yeah,” Keane told The Overlap, ahead of their clash with Aston Villa. “They were dreadful against Forest.”

Fellow pundit Gary Neville admitted he feared for Leeds’ survival after the opening day of the season.

“I said Leeds were going down after watching them in their first game, even though they beat Everton,” Neville said. “Everton were shocking that night, but I just thought Leeds weren’t right (shakes head).”

Goalscoring struggles continue for Leeds

A major problem for Leeds has been their lack of goals. Only bottom club Wolves have scored fewer than Leeds’ ten so far this season.

Forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin was brought in on a free transfer to address their goalscoring issues, but he has scored just once. Despite this, Farke has praised his contribution to the team.

“Sometimes as a striker, you find it difficult to convert your chances,” Farke, a former striker himself, explained. “Dominic has had many good opportunities – which is actually a good sign. I’d be more concerned if he wasn’t getting chances.

He’s missed a few, of course, but also scored a fantastic header against Wolves, earning us three points. His overall work rate and experience are very important to us.”

Farke emphasized that he does not judge Calvert-Lewin solely on goals:

“I don’t rate him just by goals. Of course, scoring is important, but for a striker joining a newly-promoted side, winning the golden boot isn’t realistic.

Top teams create far more chances, and we simply cannot dominate like Man City, Liverpool, or Arsenal.

“I’m happy with his performances so far, and I’m confident his goals will come. I care about the contribution of all our strikers – Joel Piroe, Dominic, Lukas Nmecha, even our young star – for the team’s survival. Goals are important, but survival in the Premier League comes first.”
