Hull City fell to a dramatic 3-2 defeat in a chaotic, rain-soaked clash in West London, leaving head coach Sergej Jakirović searching for solutions to the alarming number of shots his side continue to concede ahead of Tuesday’s home meeting with Ipswich Town.
Despite taking the lead twice, City were undone by QPR on Saturday, allowing 26 shots—a worrying repeat of their early-season trip to Bristol City, where they faced 29 efforts.
Goals from Joe Gelhardt and Enis Destan had put the Tigers 2-1 up at Loftus Road, but Rangers created chances at will, including 15 attempts in the first half alone.
Jakirović voiced his frustration at the manner of the goals conceded and challenged his players to show greater defensive aggression after suffering back-to-back away defeats.
“We’ll analyse the clips and try to fix things because we allowed far too many shots,” he told Hull Live. “We need to be more aggressive, to step in with more conviction, without worrying about what’s behind us.
QPR showed that level of aggression at times, and that’s something we need to match. It’s about reading the game and adjusting the defensive line—we have work to do.”
The Tigers boss did, however, heap praise on goalkeeper Ivor Pandur, who impressed despite being left exposed repeatedly on the back of his first senior call-up with Croatia.
“It’s a huge boost for him. To be among Croatia’s top four or five goalkeepers gives him a real chance of going to the World Cup next June,” Jakirović said. “He performed very well.
Even though we allowed too many shots and too many one-on-ones, his saves were exceptional. He conceded three goals, but he was outstanding.”
