Reaction: Birmingham boss on 4-1 win over Norwich City

Birmingham City manager Chris Davies summed things up perfectly as he reflected on a productive week for the club.

The Blues marked their 150th anniversary and unveiled plans for a new 62,000-capacity stadium, then crowned the celebrations with a dominant 4–1 win over Norwich City — a game effectively decided within the first 20 minutes.

In his post-match comments, Davies echoed what many opposing coaches have said about Norwich: they possess quality players despite being stuck in a relegation fight.

“I was pleased with the way we approached the game,” Davies said. “It’s one thing to talk about how you want to play, but actions speak louder than words. Today the players showed they were focused and prepared.”

He highlighted Norwich’s strength, insisting the victory was not as simple as the scoreline suggests.

“You look at it and see 4–1, but Norwich have talented attackers, good midfield options and experienced defenders. That isn’t a team you just walk over. We really had to earn it. I’m very happy for everyone.”

While Norwich are battling to stay in the Championship, Birmingham are preparing for a long-term future.

Their owners recently unveiled an ambitious, multi-billion-pound Birmingham City Powerhouse project scheduled for completion by the 2030/31 season. Even so, those off-field announcements didn’t distract Davies or his squad.

“It’s been a big week, with lots happening,” he said. “The 150th anniversary is huge for the club, but my focus — and the players’ focus — was on the game. We wanted to be ready and perform well, and we did.”

Davies praised his side’s fast start: “Our intensity and relentlessness were familiar to how we look at our best. We had a chance in the first minute, and that set the tone.”
