Leeds United are preparing to strengthen their attack in the winter window, with a new target emerging after a recent European showcase.
Calvert-Lewin struggles as Nmecha takes the lead
Bringing in Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer appeared to be a sensible decision, given his Premier League pedigree. However, the ex-Everton forward has struggled to make an impact at Elland Road. He has managed just one goal in 11 appearances across all competitions and has gone seven matches without scoring.
In contrast, Lukas Nmecha has moved ahead in the pecking order. The German striker netted the opener in the recent 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa, reinforcing his position as Farke’s preferred option up front.
Daniel Farke’s hesitation over Joel Piroe’s ability to reproduce last season’s form has not helped, with the Dutchman mainly restricted to substitute roles. As a result, Leeds may be forced to enter the January market for a fresh attacking option.
TEAMtalk reports that Union Saint-Gilloise forward Promise David has now become a player of interest. Leeds are exploring a potential January bid, with the Belgian side said to be open to offers in the region of £17.5m.
David among targets as Farke eyes reinforcements
David is viewed as a backup option should Leeds fail to secure other priorities. AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott and Real Madrid talent Gonzalo García are also being monitored, with Farke personally pushing for the Spanish youngster.
However, Leeds will likely face competition. West Ham United are believed to be leading the chase, while Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly preparing a rival bid.
Champions League form turning heads
Scout Jacek Kulig has branded the 24-year-old Canadian striker “outstanding” based on his displays this season. David has already scored twice in the Champions League, including the decisive strike in a 1–0 away victory over Galatasaray — his ninth goal of the campaign in all competitions.
Given his form and European pedigree, a fee of around £17.5m could prove to be excellent value. Leeds will be hoping his scoring instinct could help steer them toward safety in the second half of the season.
