“Phil Foden makes wild Leeds United declaration with Whites admission after Manchester City scare

Former PGMOL chief has claimed that Willy Gnonto should have been sent off for an unnecessary incident during Leeds United’s 3–2 defeat to Manchester City.

Phil Foden was the standout performer as City edged past Leeds in a thrilling Premier League encounter at the Etihad.

The England international opened the scoring just 59 seconds into the match and could easily have completed a first-half hat-trick as Pep Guardiola’s side dominated early on. Despite their control, City went into the break only 2–0 ahead.

Daniel Farke responded at half time by altering both his formation and personnel, sparking an impressive Leeds revival.

Goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha levelled the match at 2–2, setting up a dramatic finale as both teams pushed for a winner. Ultimately, it was Foden who decided the contest, striking in the 91st minute to secure all three points.

After the match, Foden admitted that Leeds’ tactical changes disrupted City’s rhythm and made the game far more chaotic than expected.

“It’s up there as one of the wildest games,” he told Manchester City’s official website. “We had full control in the first half. They changed their system in the second half and we couldn’t get going.”

Foden added that Guardiola’s brief instructions during a stoppage helped the squad adjust, leading to renewed momentum and late opportunities.

“We had a few half chances and finally I found a bit of space and the bottom corner,” he said. “There are still things we can improve, but we’re delighted with the result.”

Reflecting on the title race, Foden said it is never straightforward, pointing to City’s recent inconsistency.

“There are always ups and downs and periods where you can’t seem to get going. We’ve had that. The belief and togetherness came through at the end. Hopefully this is something we can build on — but you never know what to expect.”
