.Sunderland Close to Sealing Another Key Signing Ahead of Premier League Return

Sunderland’s preparations for life back in the Premier League are gathering momentum, with the club reportedly on the verge of securing another major addition to their squad, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Building on a Strong Start to the Window

Following the permanent signing of Enzo Le Fée—who impressed during his loan spell from Roma—the Black Cats also added 21-year-old Habib Diarra from Strasbourg to strengthen their midfield. Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman spoke highly of the Frenchman, saying:

> “Habib is an exciting talent, and we are delighted to welcome him to Sunderland AFC. At 21, he already has more than 100 senior appearances and has captained in one of Europe’s top leagues. That speaks volumes about his quality and potential.”

More Signings on the Horizon

The summer rebuild continues with left-back Reinildo expected to arrive as a free agent after three seasons at Atletico Madrid. Sunderland are also chasing Chelsea’s promising youngster Ishe Samuels-Smith to add further depth to their options on the left flank.

Meanwhile, centre-back Charlie Cresswell is being lined up to reinforce the heart of the defence, as head coach Régis Le Bris looks to create a solid spine capable of handling the demands of top-flight football. The quality of players being linked with the club has sparked growing optimism on Wearside, with Sunderland’s Premier League return proving an enticing proposition for ambitious recruits.

Petrovic Deal Edging Closer

The latest development sees Sunderland closing in on Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Black Cats are set to sign the Serbian shot-stopper for around £21.5 million.

Petrovic, 25, is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year deal and will compete with Anthony Patterson for the starting goalkeeper spot. Rated highly by figures in the game—Liam Rosenior has previously called him a “great goalkeeper”—Petrovic spent last season on loan at Strasbourg, where he kept 10 clean sheets in 31 appearances and conceded 38 goals overall.

After being left out of Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad in search of more playing time, Sunderland now appears poised to offer Petrovic the perfect platform to re-establish himself as a regular first-team player.
