Sean Dyche took the positives from Nottingham Forest’s second-half display against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Despite falling to defeat against the Seagulls at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon, the Reds pressed the visitors in the second period, with half-time substitutes Omari Hutchinson and Callum Hudson-Odoi testing the Brighton full-backs at every available opportunity.
The result was Forest’s first defeat in five outings, and first in November.
Dyche admitted his team were far from their best for the first 20 minutes of the contest, but he praised the response from the Reds in the second period.
“We were miles off it in the first 15–20 minutes. We defended well and had players throwing themselves in front of the ball, which is a good sign, because you have to be in it to win it when you aren’t playing well.
“We got over it tactically and from 20 minutes onwards we were good value. We gave away a really soft goal just from the basics. It’s a long punt forward, they get the first contact, we don’t get across as a unit and it’s a poor goal.
“We’d worked hard to get back in it at that point, we looked a threat and enjoyed lots more of the play, and then we give away a soft goal.
“I can’t fault the players for their reaction in the second half; there were so many good signs and the crowd were great, trying to get them going and keep them going.
“We conceded an error of a goal for the second, which takes the wind out of your sails.
“In amongst the scoreline there are a lot of positives for us, and there are a lot of good signs about what we’re delivering, and in the second half I can’t question that.
“The markers for the delivery of a performance were there. The details of the match are so important; we didn’t get it right at one end and we nearly got it right at the other.”
