Nottingham Forest supporters showed little restraint during their Premier League defeat to Everton on Saturday.
Sean Dyche’s side welcomed Forest to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 6 December and made an instant impact, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall prompting an early Nikola Milenkovic own goal inside two minutes. Thierno Barry then doubled the lead shortly before half-time.
David Moyes also had Michael Keane back in contention, and the defender returned to the starting line-up for the Toffees.
With Everton in front, it didn’t take long for sections of the away support to spark controversy, launching into the inflammatory “sign on” chant among others.
Nottingham Forest fans criticised for behaviour against Everton
Rival fans continue to cross the line with chants aimed at Everton, and it’s disappointing to see such behaviour persist at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The Forest travelling contingent were also heard singing “feed the scousers”.
Liverpool Echo reporter Joe Thomas, who was covering the match, condemned the chants. Writing on X on 6 December, he said:
“Boos from the home end as part of the Forest away end burst into a rendition of ‘sign on’. Just pure rubbish, that.”
Opta’s supercomputer gives Moyes’ side the upper hand going into the fixture, but whether Everton can convert that into three points remains to be seen.
Playing at home, Toffees fans will undoubtedly expect a strong performance as their team pushes for a potential European place.
David Moyes likely to make a half-time change after Hill Dickinson Stadium scenes
Barry and Beto have both struggled to cement their place under Moyes this season, with goals proving hard to come by.
Everton started the former Villarreal forward against Forest, but he may not continue after the break. The 23-year-old has gone down a couple of times and appears to be carrying a knock.
A half-time switch for Beto would be a logical move as Everton look to secure the win.
