“You can never” – Dominik Szoboszlai makes Leeds United declaration with admission after Liverpool draw

Dominik Szoboszlai’s 80th-minute strike briefly looked like the winning moment for Liverpool at Elland Road, but the Reds ultimately had to settle for a share of the points after a dramatic finish against Leeds United.

The Hungarian midfielder, who has started every Premier League game this season, reflected honestly on the chaotic encounter after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw.

Arne Slot’s side had surged into a 2-0 lead within minutes of the second half kicking off, thanks to a rapid double from Hugo Ekitike.

But the momentum quickly swung as Leeds hit back with two goals of their own in just three minutes — first through a Dominic Calvert-Lewin penalty, then an Anton Stach equaliser.

Szoboszlai then restored Liverpool’s advantage with a powerful finish, seemingly putting the visitors back on track for victory.

However, Leeds refused to be beaten, and Ao Tanaka’s dramatic 96th-minute strike rescued a point for Daniel Farke’s side.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Szoboszlai admitted Liverpool believed the game was won at 2-0 and expressed frustration at how the control slipped away.

“A game you can never take for granted”

The midfielder revealed that Liverpool had discussed beforehand the importance of not underestimating Leeds — a warning that ultimately proved justified.

Quoted by Liverpool’s official website, Szoboszlai said:

“I don’t know what happened after 2-0. I think we thought the game was over.
We made sure before the match that this is the kind of game where you can never underestimate who you play against.

“Maybe after the penalty, they had their momentum and got the 2-2.
We reacted well and went ahead again, which shows our mentality.

“Conceding again from a set-piece is not the nicest way.

We showed fight, we showed reaction, but we let them back into the game and that’s how it ended. Nothing more to say about the result.”
