Brighton suffered another setback as they went down 2-0 to Premier League champions Liverpool.

The Seagulls struggled throughout the match, conceding once in each half to Hugo Ekitike. Mohamed Salah also made a cameo off the bench, coming on in the 26th minute to replace the injured Joe Gomez.

Brighton appeared sluggish at Anfield, and skipper Lewis Dunk picked up a second-half booking for a foul on Ekitike.

Dunk’s fifth yellow card of the season means he will now miss Brighton’s home clash against Sunderland next Saturday. The 33-year-old will have a Christmas break but is expected to return for the trip to Arsenal on December 27.

According to Premier League rules: “Any player who earns five bookings from their side’s first 19 Premier League matches of a season will have to serve a one-match ban in the same competition.”

Brighton also have several players on four bookings, including Carlos Baleba, Mats Wieffer, Ferdi Kadioglu, and Diego Gomez, all hovering close to suspension. Baleba’s situation is slightly less urgent, as he will be away with Cameroon at the AFCON starting Monday.

Baleba struggled again at Anfield and was substituted for Yasin Ayari in the 64th minute.

The 2-0 defeat—Brighton’s fourth away loss of the season—leaves the Seagulls in ninth place, having picked up just one point from their last three matches.
