Kieran McKenna admitted he was left admiring moments of pure quality as Ipswich Town were beaten by Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Two stunning strikes proved decisive, with Bobby De Cordova-Reid opening the scoring before Abdul Fatawu produced a remarkable effort from long range, helping Leicester secure a 3-1 Championship victory.

The result lifts the Foxes into eighth place, just three points outside the play-off positions and three behind fifth-placed Ipswich, who had arrived in strong spirits following two confidence-boosting home wins.

McKenna acknowledged that his side did not produce their best performance but felt they largely kept Leicester under control apart from those moments of individual brilliance.

“I don’t think it was a great display from us,” McKenna said. “The goals were really the difference. When you concede a strike like that early on away from home against a good side, it’s always going to make things difficult.

“They had a bit of momentum after scoring, but we settled and started to grow into the game. We had a really good chance through Jack Clarke to make it 1-1.

Aside from a couple of set-piece situations, there wasn’t much in open play, so the game was quite even. Then they score an unbelievable goal right on half-time.

“Again, it’s not that we’ve done a lot wrong — it’s just another incredible moment that you have to credit. Those moments decided the game. Leicester at home, with goals like that behind them, are a very strong team.”

The Ipswich boss admitted the third goal was particularly frustrating.

“At half-time you know it’s going to be tough, but you still believe you can get back into it,” he added. “The third goal was disappointing. We were expecting a free-kick, switched off in the box, and from there it becomes really hard.

“We scored our goal without creating much, to be honest, and then had a couple of chances to make it 3-2. If one of those goes in, maybe the game changes.

But it was a match decided by moments, and unfortunately not many of them fell our way, while they took two unbelievable ones.”
