Crystal Palace have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of a highly-rated £50 million forward known for his “frightening pace”, having now made contact to explore a potential deal.

Palace eye attacking reinforcements

The Eagles are enjoying an impressive Premier League campaign and remain firmly in the mix for European qualification.

However, their Europa Conference League form has been less convincing, with disappointing defeats to AEK Larnaca and Strasbourg highlighting the need for greater attacking depth.

Following the loss to Strasbourg in late November, manager Oliver Glasner made his intentions clear, stressing the importance of strengthening his forward options when the transfer window opens.

“We have to support the players — that’s what we’ll do,” Glasner said. “Encourage them, stay positive. The second part is improving the attack, and that means bringing in a player in January.”

Palace’s desire to add firepower is also linked to uncertainty surrounding Jean-Philippe Mateta’s future, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly preparing a bid for the striker, who has scored seven Premier League goals this season. With that in mind, the club may soon be forced into the market for a replacement.

One player firmly on Palace’s radar is Tottenham attacker Brennan Johnson, who can operate through the middle or on either flank.

According to TEAMtalk, Palace have made informal contact regarding a move for the Welsh international, with two other Premier League clubs also monitoring the situation. Spurs are said to be increasingly open to a sale.

Tottenham currently value Johnson at around £50 million, although there is belief a deal could be struck for slightly less, with his inconsistent form reportedly testing the patience of head coach Thomas Frank.

A potential statement signing

Tottenham’s willingness to consider offers for Johnson may raise eyebrows, given his steady contributions since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2023.

The 24-year-old also played a decisive role in ending Spurs’ trophy drought last season, scoring the winning goal against Manchester United in the Europa League final.

Johnson’s blistering speed has previously been singled out for praise, and his arrival at Selhurst Park would represent a major statement of intent.
