“I’m sorry…”: Former EFL man shares Ipswich Town vs Sheffield Wednesday score prediction

Ipswich Town return to Championship action on Saturday afternoon as they welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Portman Road.

The Tractor Boys have been tipped to claim a comfortable victory in the fixture by former EFL forward Sam Parkin, with Ipswich looking to respond following their 3-1 defeat away at Leicester City last time out.

Jens Cajuste found the net for Kieran McKenna’s side at the King Power Stadium, but it proved little consolation as Ipswich left empty-handed after a disappointing afternoon.

Despite that setback, McKenna’s men remain well placed in the Championship table and continue to occupy a play-off position alongside the likes of Preston North End, Millwall and Hull City.

Offering his prediction ahead of the clash, Parkin told the Benjamin Bloom YouTube channel that Sheffield Wednesday’s recent performance left him unconvinced. He said: “That was probably Wednesday’s flattest display of the season. I think they managed one shot on target, and that came when they were already 3-0 down. I’m sorry, but I’m going to go big here — I’m saying 4-0.”

Sheffield Wednesday currently sit bottom of the league and are firmly in the relegation zone along with Norwich City and Oxford United. Their struggles continued last weekend with a heavy 3-0 home defeat to Derby County.

Ipswich Town looking to bounce back
Ipswich’s primary objective this season is an immediate return to the Premier League after suffering relegation earlier this year alongside Leicester City and Southampton.

The club cashed in on key figures such as Omari Hutchinson and Liam Delap during the last transfer window, before reinvesting in the squad with additions including Sindre Walle Egeli, Kasey McAteer and Ivan Azon.

While Ipswich have shown plenty of quality, consistency has occasionally eluded them, leaving them susceptible to the odd defeat.

McKenna is known for regularly rotating his starting XI, a strategy that can sometimes disrupt momentum, though adapting back to life in the Championship after top-flight relegation is rarely straightforward.

Sheffield Wednesday’s uphill task
Sheffield Wednesday have endured a difficult campaign, recording just one league victory since Henrik Pedersen took charge — a win away at Portsmouth in September.

Pedersen was appointed following Danny Röhl’s departure, having previously worked as part of Röhl’s coaching team after joining the club in 2023. The Danish coach has inherited a challenging situation and is attempting to make the best of limited resources.

Another tough assignment awaits at Portman Road, and Wednesday will need a vastly improved display if they are to take anything from their meeting with Ipswich Town.
