Daniel Farke has opted to stick with the same starting XI for Leeds United’s trip to Sunderland on Sunday afternoon.

The Whites head into the clash in confident form in front of goal and are expected to pose a major threat, although the encounter is still anticipated to be a tightly contested affair.

Lukas Nmecha was close to making his return after missing the last three matches with a hamstring issue, but the fixture comes too soon for both him and Dan James, as well as Sean Longstaff.

Aaronson remains a polarising figure at Elland Road, often criticised for his inconsistency despite clear improvements in his overall game.

While he has developed into a more reliable Premier League performer than in previous spells, he still struggles to fully win over sections of the fanbase.

This season, the American has registered one goal and two assists in 16 league appearances, starting 10 matches. In comparison, Tanaka has scored twice in 14 outings, starting seven games, and has quickly become a fan favourite thanks to his seamless adaptation to top-flight football.

As a result, Farke’s decision to keep Tanaka on the bench is likely to frustrate many Leeds supporters, with fears that Aaronson’s inclusion could once again prove costly.

The Leeds boss will be hoping his faith in the American pays off, as Aaronson looks to silence the critics and deliver in the North East.
