Everton face a major call over Jack Grealish in the coming months.
The England international joined the Toffees on a season-long loan from Manchester City, meaning a decision will soon be required on whether to make the move permanent.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Everton could land Grealish for less than the £50million buy option included in the deal.
However, there have been no formal discussions with City so far, leaving Grealish with plenty to prove before the end of the season.
With that in mind, there is a strong argument that Everton should resist a permanent move for Grealish and instead explore alternative options in the Premier League.
Why Kevin Schade could be the smarter move
Committing to Grealish long-term would represent a significant gamble. Factoring in both transfer fee and wages, the deal could cost Everton as much as £76million over the next four years.
At 30 years old, Grealish is also approaching the latter stages of his peak, making a return to Manchester City a more sensible outcome.
A more suitable and cost-effective alternative could be Brentford winger Kevin Schade. The 24-year-old’s pace and directness appear better suited to David Moyes’ system, with his ability to attack space and finish chances reducing the burden on Everton’s strikers.
Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg claims Brentford value Schade between £43m and £52m, while his wage demands would be far lower than Grealish’s. That makes the deal more realistic for the Friedkin Group to pursue.
Schade’s similarity to Jarrod Bowen
Data from FBref highlights that Schade’s playing style closely mirrors that of West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen. Both wide players excel at making runs in behind and contributing goals rather than focusing purely on chance creation.
Given Bowen’s outstanding success under Moyes at West Ham, that comparison could be a strong indicator that Schade would flourish under the same manager at Everton.
The main concern, however, is competition. Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly monitoring Schade’s situation, with former Brentford boss Thomas Frank keen to be reunited with the Germany international, who has already earned five senior caps.
