Oxford United Sign ‘Most Talented Player I Have Seen in the Last 30 Years of Turkish Football’

Oxford United have completed their third signing of the January transfer window, securing the services of Turkish midfielder Yunus Emre Konak on loan from Brentford.

The 20-year-old has represented Turkey at youth level and arrives at Grenoble Road following former Bees teammate Myles Peart-Harris.

Konak has already made 14 senior appearances for Brentford, ten of which came from the bench in the Premier League.

Highly rated within the game, Konak has previously drawn glowing praise from his former Sivasspor manager, who described him as “the most talented player I have seen in the last 30 years of Turkish football.”

Primarily a defensive midfielder, his addition is expected to allow players such as Cameron Brannagan and Brian De Keersmaecker to operate higher up the pitch and have greater influence in attacking areas.

Speaking after completing his move, Konak expressed his enthusiasm, saying: “I’m really excited about this opportunity at Oxford United and I can’t wait to show the fans what I can do.

I’m a player who likes to fight and give everything on the pitch, and I want to help the club achieve as much as possible during this loan spell.

“This is a big chance for me to play regularly and prove myself in English football. The supporters will see a player full of energy, determination and ready to compete.”

Oxford United head coach Matt Bloomfield also welcomed the midfielder, adding: “I’m delighted to bring Yunus into the group. He’s a fantastic young player with enormous potential, and I’m looking forward to working with him.

“I’ve been aware of Yunus and his qualities for some time, and credit goes to Ed Waldron and the recruitment team for the work they’ve put into tracking him. When the opportunity arose, it was one we were keen to take.

“He’s an aggressive midfielder with a strong work ethic, excellent technical ability and real character. We believe he’ll bring something different to our midfield, and I’m excited to see the impact he can make for us between now and the end of the season.”
