Town defender Makosso completes loan move to Oxford United

Luton Town defender Christ Makosso has joined Championship side Oxford United on loan until the end of the season, reuniting with former Town manager Matt Bloomfield.

The 21-year-old Congo international moved to Kenilworth Road last season from Belgian second-tier side RWD Molenbeek and went on to make 24 appearances.

During his debut campaign, he earned both the SoLYD Young Player of the Season and the Supporters’ Trust Signing of the Season awards.

Makosso’s first-team opportunities became limited following Jack Wilshere’s arrival in October, prompting the move to the Kassam Stadium. Speaking to Oxford United’s official site, Bloomfield said:

“When I arrived at Luton, Christ had just signed and was playing for the Under-21s.

It was immediately clear he had something special. He seized his first-team chance with real authority. Christ adapted quickly to the Championship—a challenging step for any young player in a new country.

Athletically, he is exceptional: fast, powerful, brave, and a resolute presence in the box. He has enormous potential but is also ready to make an immediate impact on the squad.”

Head of football operations Ed Waldron added:

“Christ is a young, high-potential defender who fits the profile we are targeting. He is athletic, aggressive, and an outstanding box defender, with plenty of room to grow.

We have monitored him since his time in Belgium, and his development at Luton has only strengthened our belief in his ability.

While his connection with Matt was a factor, this move aligns with our long-term recruitment strategy and scouting model. We are confident Christ will make a strong contribution this season and continue to develop into an even more exciting player.”
