While Rangers kept themselves firmly in the race with a vital win that reduced the gap to two points rather than allowing it to stretch to eight, they remain second in the standings, with a further point back but holding a game in hand.

Although many hailed the result as a statement performance after Rangers dominated the league leaders, Boyd remains unconvinced that it signals a decisive turning point in the title chase.

His concern lies in the demanding post-split schedule that awaits Philippe Clement’s side.

Rangers are set to play all three of their remaining top-six rivals away from home after the split — trips to , , and either or .

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Boyd explained why that makes a sizeable lead essential. “I feel Rangers need to go into the split with a lead if they’re going to win the league,” he said. “They’re facing three away games, and those are never easy.”

He added that while Easter Road may appear the more likely destination, it remains a tough venue, and Motherwell’s strong home form — highlighted by another clean sheet at Fir Park — cannot be ignored.

“You get the sense that Rangers need more than just a one- or two-point advantage,” Boyd concluded. “For me, it has to be four or five points at the top of the table — and that’s going to be a huge ask.”
