‘You never know’ – Elliot Anderson gives ambiguous answer on Nottingham Forest future amid Newcastle United links

Elliot Anderson has remained tight-lipped about his long-term future at Nottingham Forest amid renewed speculation linking him with a return to Newcastle United.

Less than two years ago, Newcastle made the difficult decision to part ways with their academy graduate in a £15 million deal.

With PSR concerns threatening a possible Premier League points deduction, the club acted out of necessity, sanctioning Anderson’s departure alongside Yankuba Minteh.

Since then, the Whitley Bay-born midfielder has flourished, establishing himself as a reliable Premier League performer and earning recognition on the international stage with England.

Tipped by many to feature prominently for the Three Lions at the upcoming World Cup, Anderson’s rapid rise has reportedly caught the attention of both Manchester clubs as well as Arsenal.

Newcastle’s transfer position

Although talk of a sensational return to St James’ Park has surfaced, NewcastleWorld reports that Forest’s reported £100 million valuation places the midfielder well beyond Newcastle’s financial reach. Such a fee would absorb the majority of their summer transfer budget.
Back in October, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted he would welcome Anderson back, though he stressed respect for his current club. Howe said he would love to see the midfielder return but acknowledged it would be inappropriate to speak too openly about a player contracted elsewhere.

He also described it as “regrettable” that an academy product who had received years of development at the club was ultimately not utilised in the long term.

Anderson responds to speculation

When questioned about his future at Forest, Anderson offered a measured response, stopping short of making any firm commitment beyond this season.

He insisted his sole focus remains on performing and giving everything for Nottingham Forest.
Reflecting on the past two years, Anderson said the move away from his hometown was a major step in both his career and personal growth.

He believes he has progressed significantly on and off the pitch and credited Forest for providing him with the platform to showcase his ability.

While acknowledging that football careers are unpredictable, he expressed satisfaction with the decision he made and how it has shaped his development.
