Marco Silva says West Ham star has a great moment against Fulham
West Ham United F.C. goalkeeper Mads Hermansen delivered a standout performance in his side’s victory over Fulham F.C., earning praise even from opposing manager Marco Silva after the match.
Hermansen produced two superb saves during West Ham’s narrow 1–0 triumph at Craven Cottage. The Danish shot-stopper denied efforts from Josh King and Timothy Castagne, helping the Hammers secure their fourth clean sheet in the nine Premier League matches he has featured in.
His performance proved crucial to the result, and even Silva acknowledged the goalkeeper’s impact after the game.
Silva praises Hermansen’s decisive save
The Fulham boss felt his team deserved more from the contest but admitted Hermansen’s late intervention made all the difference. In particular, the Dane’s save from Castagne in the closing stages prevented what looked like a certain equaliser.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Silva said the moment Fulham nearly levelled the match was stopped by a “great” save from the West Ham keeper — a moment that ultimately shaped the outcome of the game.
Hermansen has quickly become one of the key figures in West Ham’s recent improvement in form. The club’s decision not only to keep him during the January transfer window but also to restore him to the starting lineup now appears to have been a smart move.
Without the former Leicester City F.C. goalkeeper’s heroics, West Ham likely would not have walked away with all three points.
Big decision paying off for Nuno
It was a bold call from manager Nuno Espírito Santo to drop Alphonse Areola and give Hermansen the No.1 spot last month.
The Danish goalkeeper had struggled to fully convince after his move from Leicester and had even been linked with a possible exit during the January transfer window. However, Nuno chose to keep faith in him — a decision that now looks increasingly justified.
Whether West Ham ultimately have enough to secure their Premier League survival remains uncertain. But their chances of avoiding relegation have certainly improved, and performances from players like Hermansen are playing a major role.
Silva may have been disappointed with the final result, but he had little choice but to acknowledge the goalkeeper whose late save proved decisive in Fulham’s defeat. ⚽
