‘I played for Danny Rohl, Rangers fans will regret his sacking at Ibrox

Sheffield Wednesday defender Max Lowe has urged Rangers F.C. supporters to continue backing manager Danny Rohl despite growing criticism.
The German coach has faced scrutiny from the Gers faithful after Rangers were knocked out of the Scottish Cup quarter-final by rivals Celtic F.C. on 8 March.

During the penalty shootout, captain James Tavernier and Djeidi Gassama both missed their attempts, increasing pressure on Rohl after Rangers had already dropped points in the latest Old Firm derby the previous week.

As a result, questions have started to surface about Rohl’s future at Ibrox Stadium. However, Lowe believes the former Sheffield Wednesday boss is destined for even greater opportunities if he eventually leaves the Glasgow club.

Lowe backs Rohl’s managerial quality
Lowe insisted Rangers fans should appreciate Rohl while he remains at the club.

The German previously transformed a struggling situation at Hillsborough after taking charge in 2023 and was tasked with a similarly challenging job when he arrived at Ibrox.
After Rangers’ poor start to the Scottish Premiership season under Russell Martin, few expected Rohl to guide the team back into the title race.

The 36-year-old coach previously worked alongside Hansi Flick at FC Bayern Munich and with the Germany national football team. Because of that experience, Lowe believes Rohl could eventually move on to manage in the Premier League or another major European league.

Speaking to the Daily Record on 12 March, Lowe said Rangers supporters should remain patient, stressing that anyone who has worked with Rohl — whether at Sheffield Wednesday, Bayern Munich, or elsewhere in Germany — knows how highly he is regarded as a coach.

He added that if Rohl does leave Rangers, he is likely to secure a job in the Premier League or another top European division, which is why the Ibrox faithful should value him while they can.

Rising expectations causing frustration
Despite his achievements, some Rangers fans believe Rohl must deliver the league title now that the club is out of the cup competitions.

His earlier success raised expectations among supporters, and recent performances have not always lived up to those hopes, particularly after backing in the winter transfer window.

Another frustration for the Ibrox crowd has been Rangers’ inability to consistently dominate matches. However, there is also an argument that if Rohl had not improved the team so significantly since arriving, many fans might have been more patient given the overall limitations in the current squad.
