Kris Boyd, a legendary figure for Rangers F.C., delivered what many are calling an unprecedented and explosive rant on live television after the chaotic pitch invasion that overshadowed the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Ibrox Stadium on March 8, 2026.

The drama unfolded after Celtic F.C. won the match 4–2 in a penalty shootout, triggering a mass invasion of the pitch as hundreds of supporters from both clubs clashed, drawing widespread criticism from across the football world.

Serving as a pundit for Sky Sports, Boyd abandoned his usual calm analysis and instead launched into a fiery six-minute tirade that quickly went viral, racking up millions of views on social media.

The former striker aimed his anger not only at the “hooligans” involved in the violence but also at the Scottish Football Association, blasting their initial response as weak and humiliating. Boyd accused the governing body of hiding behind corporate language while the reputation of Scottish football was being destroyed in front of a global audience.

In a visibly emotional outburst, he rejected the SFA’s standard statements about investigations and protocols, insisting the incident was far more serious. He pointed out that staff members had been assaulted, players were shoved by intruders, and the pitch had turned into a chaotic battleground, saying the authorities had failed the fans, the clubs, and the country.
Boyd’s anger intensified when he spoke about player safety. He noted that Tomáš Čvančara, celebrated by Celtic supporters after the win, was reportedly seen with blood on his kit, while Julián Araujo was confronted by a pitch invader during the disorder.

Describing the security situation as “shambolic,” Boyd questioned how thousands of visiting fans could be packed into sections of the stadium without adequate protection, arguing that the breakdown in control made the violence almost inevitable.

The explosive rant has sharply divided public opinion. Some viewers praised Boyd for speaking with brutal honesty and refusing to soften the reality of what happened, while others criticized his emotional delivery as unprofessional for a television analyst.

Regardless of the debate, the viral footage has increased pressure on the SFA, which has now promised a high-level investigation into the incident.

Boyd, however, made it clear that he believes strong action is required. He ended his broadcast by insisting that unless those responsible impose lifetime bans and severe sporting penalties, the officials in charge should step down immediately. ⚽
