Arthur Reveals the Key Role Rangers’ Jayden Meghoma Played in His Switch to Celtic

Celtic defender Benjamin Arthur has opened up about an intriguing conversation he had with Rangers loanee Jayden Meghoma before completing his January move.

Arthur revealed that he reached out to Meghoma for insight before sealing his loan switch from Brentford to Celtic during the winter transfer window. The centre-back, who hails from Warwickshire, joined the Hoops after making three cup appearances for the Premier League side earlier this season.

Arthur sought Meghoma’s advice before Celtic switch

The 20-year-old admitted he consulted Meghoma prior to committing to Celtic for the remainder of the campaign. Both players previously shared time together at Brentford, with Meghoma also making a loan move north of the border to join Rangers.

Having already experienced life in Glasgow, Meghoma was well-placed to offer guidance, with Arthur keen to understand both the city and the demands of the Scottish Premiership.

Given Meghoma’s steady run of game time at Rangers earlier in the season—something he struggled to secure at Brentford—it’s likely he provided a positive perspective.

Speaking during a Q&A session on Celtic’s official Instagram page, Arthur said:
“I did ask Jayden Meghoma what Scotland and Glasgow were like.”

Uncertain future for Meghoma at Rangers

Meghoma arrived at Rangers late in the summer window on a season-long loan deal from Brentford and initially established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back.

However, his role has diminished following the arrival of Tuur Rommens, leaving the 19-year-old fighting to regain his place in the starting lineup. He now faces the challenge of impressing manager Danny Rohl in training to earn more opportunities.

A permanent move to Ibrox in the summer currently appears unlikely. Brentford are expected to demand a significant fee, and with Meghoma still developing, Rangers may prefer to invest in a more experienced option if they decide to spend heavily.

Planning for the next transfer window is already underway, with incoming business expected to depend largely on outgoing players. As it stands, though, there are no clear indications that Rangers intend to make Meghoma’s move permanent.
