West Ham star should feel ashamed as woeful stats emerge from West Ham loss vs Aston Villa

Jarrod Bowen will be far from satisfied with his display in West Ham United’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa on Sunday.

It’s been a difficult season overall for the Hammers, though Bowen has still produced moments of brilliance. In truth, without their captain’s contributions, their chances of remaining in the Premier League would look extremely slim.

Despite recording 14 goal involvements this campaign, the England international has occasionally looked frustrated, and there’s a growing sense that if Nuno Espírito Santo’s side were to suffer relegation, Bowen’s time at the London Stadium could come to an end.

The defeat to Aston Villa dealt a major blow to West Ham’s survival hopes—and Bowen’s performance was well below his usual standards.

So far this season, Bowen has completed 46 successful dribbles in the league, outperforming most right wingers in that area. However, he struggled badly against Villa left-back Lucas Digne, who effectively kept him quiet throughout the match.

According to Sofascore, the 29-year-old managed just one successful dribble from three attempts and failed to register a single shot on target.

He also lost all of his aerial duels and won just 29% of his ground battles—numbers that simply weren’t good enough in such a crucial game. With six misplaced crosses and only two touches inside the opposition box, it was a frustrating outing for the winger.

Bowen will be eager to respond after the international break, especially given how important he has been for West Ham. While one poor performance doesn’t overshadow his contributions, he’ll undoubtedly feel he missed an opportunity to help lift the team out of the relegation zone for the first time since November.

Whenever Bowen eventually departs, it will mark a significant moment for the club. Even beyond his famous goal in the Europa Conference League final against Fiorentina, his overall record is outstanding.

With 83 goals in all competitions and 108 Premier League goal contributions, he ranks among West Ham’s top scorers of the modern era.

Having played a key role in consecutive top-seven finishes between 2020 and 2022, Bowen faces a very different challenge this season. Yet, helping the club avoid relegation could prove just as defining for his legacy.

With seven games remaining, he’ll need to rediscover his best form—but if he does, West Ham will have a strong chance of preserving their 13-year stay in the top flight.
