Oxford United Face Relegation Threat and Potential Summer Departures
Oxford United are battling to avoid relegation and could risk losing key players this summer if they drop to League One. Currently sitting 23rd in the Championship with just seven games remaining, the U’s are only a point from safety.
Despite recent improvement—winning three of their last five matches—manager Matt Bloomfield, who replaced Gary Rowett, faces a challenging run-in to keep the club in the second tier.
Oxford United have one of the league’s weaker squads, though they do boast individual talents capable of influencing their survival bid.
Here are three players who could leave Oxford United this summer if relegation occurs:
Jack Currie
Currie, who joined Oxford in 2024, spent last season on loan at Leyton Orient, making 36 appearances and contributing two assists. This season, the 24-year-old left-back has featured 30 times for the U’s, providing one assist.
While his attacking output could improve, his defensive reliability has made him a standout performer and an attractive target for other Championship clubs. At his age, Currie is likely to aim for football at a higher level, and dropping to League One could hinder his progression.
Myles Peart-Harris
The 23-year-old attacker arrived in January on a short-term deal from Brentford. Having impressed on loan at Swansea City last season with four goals and three assists in 30 appearances, Peart-Harris has the talent to play above League One level. His single goal so far for Oxford may underplay his potential, but the club would struggle to retain him if they are relegated.
Brian De Keersmaecker
Since joining Oxford United, the 25-year-old Belgian has been pivotal in midfield. Rowett’s first signing of the season, De Keersmaecker has contributed five assists in 26 appearances, and his absence following an injury in late January has been felt keenly. With his quality, it’s unlikely the U’s could hold onto him in League One.
