Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has confirmed that Omari Hutchinson ruled himself out of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie against Bromley, stating he didn’t feel in the right frame of mind to contribute.
The Tractor Boys suffered one of the biggest upsets of the Carabao Cup first round, falling to League Two side Bromley in a penalty shootout.
Despite fielding a strong lineup, Town put in a flat performance, going 1-0 down in the first half to a Deji Elewere goal. Ben Johnson equalised early in the second half, but missed penalties from George Hirst and Ali Al-Hamadi saw Ipswich crash out of the competition.
Hutchinson was a notable absentee from the squad. The 21-year-old had missed the opening league match against Birmingham City due to a throat infection, but McKenna revealed the winger has since recovered. However, with ongoing speculation about a potential move away, Hutchinson opted not to make himself available.
Speaking to the East Anglian Daily Times, McKenna explained:
“He trained on Monday okay and then felt he couldn’t contribute today with the situation as it is. That was his decision.
He’s expressed a desire to continue playing Premier League football if that opportunity arises. We care deeply for him — he’s only 21, and it’s not an easy situation for a young player to navigate.”
