Ipswich Town: George Hirst praises returning midfielder Jens Cajuste

Ipswich Town striker George Hirst has expressed his excitement at the return of Jens Cajuste to the club.

Following an impressive loan spell at Portman Road, Cajuste attracted plenty of interest from other clubs. Despite Ipswich’s relegation to the Championship last season, the midfielder has chosen to return to Suffolk.

Hirst praised Cajuste’s quality and revealed that several members of the squad had been actively encouraging him to come back over the summer.

“People ask me who the best player I’ve played with is — he’s definitely right up there,” Hirst said.

“Jens is incredible, both as a player and as a person, so having him back is huge for us as a team and a club. The lads all love him, and I think just about everyone was messaging him to try and bring him back in.”

Cajuste was absent from both the recent league match at Birmingham City and the Carabao Cup defeat to Bromley, as he continues to recover from a knee issue and missed most of pre-season. The club is managing his return carefully, but there’s hope he could make his second debut this Sunday when Ipswich host Southampton in a crucial early clash.

As for Hirst, he’s looking forward to playing in front of the home crowd at Portman Road for the first time since May.

“It’s a special place to play, especially with the fans,” he said. “Last season we had a packed house every week — the atmosphere was incredible.

“For me, there’s no better place to play.”
