Leeds United Target Leicester’s Bilal El Khannouss as Transfer Deadline Approaches
Leeds United are making a strong push to sign Leicester City midfielder Bilal El Khannouss before the transfer window closes, while the Foxes are already exploring potential replacements.
At just 21 years old, El Khannouss has demonstrated both long-term promise and the ability to contribute immediately.
Known for his set-piece prowess, he could be a great fit for a Leeds side that boasts significant height and physical strength heading into the 2025/26 campaign.
Among the clubs pursuing the Moroccan international, Leeds appear to be the most committed. Following Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League, the club is expected to cash in on El Khannouss during this window.
Talks between Leeds and the player’s representatives reportedly took place a few weeks ago, and wage demands are said to be manageable for the Yorkshire club.
Leicester Eyeing Calvin Stengs as a Replacement
Leicester have lined up Feyenoord’s Calvin Stengs as a potential replacement should El Khannouss depart.
Alongside Emi Buendia, El Khannouss is one of four attacking midfielders currently linked with a move to Elland Road. However, Leeds face competition—Crystal Palace are also showing serious interest.
Palace view El Khannouss as a possible successor to Eberechi Eze and, according to journalist David Ornstein, have stepped up their efforts in recent weeks. Despite multiple attempts, Leicester have so far rejected Palace’s bids.
Talks between the two clubs took place last week, but no deal has been reached, leaving Leeds with a potential opening if the situation remains unresolved.
El Khannouss is reportedly eager to leave Leicester, and tensions between the Foxes and Palace may be stalling a move to Selhurst Park. Progress on any deal is likely contingent on Leicester securing a replacement.
Stengs Could Unlock El Khannouss’ Exit
Calvin Stengs, a versatile attacking midfielder or winger, had previously been on Leeds’ radar as a potential replacement for Georginio Rutter.
Although Stengs initially resisted a move away from Feyenoord, Leicester are now in talks to bring him in. Sky Sports reporters Anthony Joseph and Rob Dorsett confirm discussions are underway, with Feyenoord open to selling.
However, Celtic are also monitoring the Dutchman and may step up their interest if they qualify for the Champions League group stages.
Stengs’ Recent Form and Injury Concerns
Stengs had an outstanding debut season with Feyenoord after joining from OGC Nice in 2023, contributing to 25 goals and catching the eye of several clubs, including Leeds. Unfortunately, his most recent campaign was marred by injuries—including knee surgery and recurring hamstring and ankle problems—which significantly limited his playing time and output.
If Leicester do seal the deal for Stengs, they would be acquiring a highly talented but injury-prone player—potentially clearing the path for El Khannouss to move on.
