“To perform like that with everything going on in his life… I imagine he didn’t get much sleep the night before. But he came in and made a huge difference, like he always does. He brings energy and is always dangerous in the box. Really happy for him.”

Turning to Le Fée, the Dutch goalkeeper expressed confidence in the midfielder’s composure and quality:

“I haven’t watched the penalty back yet, but once Enzo stepped up, you just felt he would score. He’s already shown what he can do — like in the Burnley game. He’s fantastic on the ball, and what stands out is his work rate off it. He’s the kind of player every team wants.”

Controversy Around the Penalty

The penalty was awarded after referee Anthony Taylor judged Brentford’s Reinildo to have fouled Nathan Collins inside the area — a decision that left some Sunderland players puzzled.

Roefs admitted the team wasn’t entirely convinced by the call:

“There was a bit of a delay before the penalty. Honestly, not everyone on our team agreed with the decision. I haven’t seen the replay, but I think even the Brentford players weren’t sure what was going on.”

Strong Start for Sunderland

Saturday’s victory takes Sunderland to six points from their first three Premier League matches this season.

It also marks only the second time in club history that they’ve won both of their opening home games in a top-flight campaign — a promising start as they head into the season’s first international break.
