Massive Setback for Ipswich – Top Player Injured on International Duty!
Ipswich Town Midfielder Sammie Szmodics Withdraws from Ireland Squad Due to Injury
Sammie Szmodics has departed the Republic of Ireland camp early after picking up an injury during their recent World Cup qualifier.
The 29-year-old started in Ireland’s 2-2 draw against Hungary but was substituted in the 78th minute. Following the match, Szmodics confirmed via social media that he would not be available for Tuesday’s fixture against Armenia due to the injury.
Posting on Twitter, he said: “Gutted to be leaving camp early, fingers crossed it’s nothing too serious. Good luck to the boys in Armenia.”
Despite his absence, several Ipswich Town players remain with the national squad. Dara O’Shea, Kasey McAteer, Jack Taylor, and Chiedozie Ogbene (currently on loan at Sheffield United) are all still involved.
O’Shea started alongside Szmodics against Hungary, while McAteer, Taylor, and Ogbene all made substitute appearances.
