Mikey Moore has opened up about his initiation into the Tottenham Hotspur first-team, revealing how he had to perform a song in front of the entire squad and staff during last year’s pre-season tour of South Korea.
Like many clubs, Spurs require new players breaking into the senior setup to perform an initiation song — a lighthearted tradition usually done during their first away trip or in pre-season. Moore, along with fellow newcomer Lucas Bergvall, took part in the ritual last summer.
Speaking alongside teammate Dane Scarlett in a Q&A session for Junior One Hotspur members on Spurs’ official YouTube channel, the 17-year-old shared how the moment unfolded. He recalled being caught off guard when team captain Heung-min Son tapped his glass at a restaurant in Korea, signaling that the new boys had to perform.
Moore said:
“It was in a restaurant in Korea, I think, and all of a sudden you know you’re about to sing when you hear the glass get tapped. It might have been Sonny. He said, ‘Mikey, Archie, all the new boys,’ and you have to go up and sing. We had to stand at the front of the restaurant with all the staff and players.”
For his performance, Moore chose Adele’s “Someone Like You” — a bold choice, but one that worked in his favor as it got others singing along. He admitted that things went far better for him than they did for Lucas Bergvall, whose rendition, he joked, was “terrible.”
In a lighter moment, Moore and Scarlett also revealed which teammate’s hairstyle they’d most like to have. Both pointed to defender Radu Dragusin, known for his striking long hair tied in a bun. Moore confessed that he often gets teased about his own hairstyle — particularly by Son, who isn’t shy about sharing his opinion.
“Radu. He’s got that long, big bun. If I could grow hair like that, I would choose him. He’s scary as well! Sonny hates my hair; he thinks it’s terrible,” Moore laughed.
The light-hearted revelations gave fans a glimpse into the team’s camaraderie and the unique dressing room dynamics that help bond the squad.
