Tommy Doyle Joins Birmingham City on Loan from Wolves

Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle has completed a season-long loan move to Birmingham City ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The 23-year-old heads to St. Andrew’s in search of the regular game time that eluded him at Molineux last season. Doyle made just 26 appearances in all competitions, totaling only 656 minutes. His struggles for minutes were evident early on, and the arrival of manager Vitor Pereira midway through the season further limited his chances.

Although Pereira gave Doyle a handful of opportunities, it quickly became clear the Portuguese boss preferred a different type of player. The turning point came after a defeat to Nottingham Forest, when Pereira publicly criticized Doyle for going “missing” during the game. Following that, Doyle was frequently omitted from matchday squads in the final months of the season.

Now, Doyle has the opportunity to rebuild his form and confidence at Birmingham, who are back in the Championship and aiming for a strong season. The midfielder has previously impressed at this level with Sheffield United, and Wolves will be watching closely to see if he can recapture that form.

On Instagram, Doyle shared his excitement about the move, posting:
“Motivated for the season ahead. Big goals to achieve. Can’t wait to get started. 💙”

Several Wolves teammates replied with support:

Joao Gomes: “I’ll miss you so much lattt 🥹❤️‍🔥”

Dan Bentley: “All the best mate 💪🏼”

Mario Lemina: “Come on laaaa !!! 🔥”

Doyle has already racked up 52 appearances in the Championship, giving Birmingham a player with proven experience at this level. With no purchase option included in the loan, Wolves will likely reassess his situation next summer—either to reintegrate him into the squad or explore a permanent move elsewhere.

Though his time at Wolves has yet to fully take off, this loan could be exactly what Doyle needs to reignite his career. For Birmingham, it’s a smart acquisition as they look to stabilize following promotion.
