Former Newcastle United and Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark is attracting growing attention, with Sunderland and Rangers among several clubs keeping a close eye on the Red Bull Salzburg midfielder.
The 20-year-old, who joined Salzburg from Liverpool in August 2024 for a reported £10 million, could be on the move again — potentially triggering a sell-on clause for the Reds if a certain transfer threshold is met. Reports suggest Liverpool would be entitled to a percentage of any future fee above the £10m Salzburg originally paid, meaning a deal worth £12–15 million could see Jurgen Klopp’s former club benefit financially.
Clark’s move to Austria reunited him with former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders and marked another step in his development after emerging from two of England’s most respected academies — Newcastle and Liverpool.
Now, Sunderland are looking to bolster their creative midfield options following the £33 million sale of Jobe Bellingham to Borussia Dortmund earlier in the summer, and Clark fits the club’s recruitment strategy: young, technically gifted, and shaped by elite-level training environments.
Alongside Sunderland and Rangers, clubs such as Wrexham and MLS side Chicago Fire are also believed to be interested in the England youth international.
Despite having Clark under contract until 2029, Salzburg are understood to be open to serious offers. They remain relaxed about his future but are likely to entertain bids starting in the region of £12 million.
A potential move to Sunderland would also carry a sentimental twist — Bobby’s father, Lee Clark, famously crossed the Tyne-Wear divide in 1997, leaving Newcastle to help the Black Cats win promotion under Peter Reid.
Bobby Clark spent seven years at Newcastle’s academy before signing with Liverpool in 2021 in a deal worth around £1.5 million. He turned professional at 17 and made his senior debut in a 9–0 win over Bournemouth in August 2022.
Now, with interest mounting and a possible summer switch on the cards, the next chapter in Clark’s promising career could bring him back to English football — and potentially to the Stadium of Light.
