Everton are looking ahead with optimism after securing several key players on new contracts. Club captain Seamus Coleman, centre-backs Michael Keane and Jarrad Branthwaite have all committed their futures to the club, with midfielder Idrissa Gueye expected to follow shortly.
With those renewals in place, attention now turns to bolstering the squad in the transfer market as preparations ramp up for the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Ceiran Loney Signs First Pro Deal
While no new signings have yet arrived, Everton did confirm a significant development with one of their academy players. On Saturday (5 July), 17-year-old striker Ceiran Loney signed his first professional contract at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Loney joined the Toffees from Partick Thistle last summer and spent the past season with the under-18s, making 12 appearances. He previously made headlines by becoming Partick Thistle’s youngest-ever debutant at just 16 years and 17 days old.
Reflecting on his achievement, Loney said: “I’m buzzing – I think it’s a big achievement for me in my football career so far. It’s something that you dream of when you’re young, so it’s good to see that the hard work is paying off.”
He is now set to begin training with the first team after signing a contract that runs until June 2027.
Striker Crisis Looms for Everton
Despite Loney’s promising future, Everton still face an urgent need to strengthen up front. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has opted not to renew his contract and has departed as a free agent, leaving Beto as the club’s only senior recognised striker.
With the new campaign opener against Leeds on 11 August fast approaching, manager David Moyes will be under pressure to bring in at least two or three proven forwards.
Last season’s top scorer, Iliman Ndiaye, managed just nine Premier League goals, followed by Beto with eight and Dwight McNeil with four. Everton found the net only 42 times across their 38 league matches – the fourth-lowest tally in the division.

Loney remains a bright prospect, but relying on him this early would point to shortcomings in recruitment. Everton must act quickly to reinforce their forward line before the season kicks off.
