Former Premier League midfielder Lee Hendrie believes Ipswich Town could pull off a smart piece of business if they secure a loan move for Chelsea forward Marc Guiu this summer.
Following the departure of Liam Delap, who has returned to Manchester City before moving permanently to another club, Ipswich are keen to strengthen their attacking options. According to The Athletic, 19-year-old Guiu remains on their radar as a potential replacement.
With the Tractor Boys aiming for promotion back to the Premier League under Kieran McKenna, finding the right goalscorer is now a priority — and Hendrie thinks Guiu has what it takes to step up.
Hendrie on Guiu: “I’ve got a good feeling”
Speaking to Football League World, Hendrie acknowledged Delap’s importance to Ipswich last season and emphasized the need for a capable replacement.
“Ipswich obviously losing Delap, it’s key that they get someone in the door,” Hendrie said. “Marc Guiu from Chelsea has been heavily linked, and while I’m not saying he’s definitely the answer, I do feel he’s got something about him.”
Hendrie admitted any move for the teenager would be a risk but believes it could pay off.
“Young players are going out on loan to prove themselves more often now, and I’ve got a good feeling this young man could step up. He’s got a bit of everything.”
Guiu’s Chelsea stats and potential impact
Guiu had limited opportunities in the Premier League last season, featuring just three times off the bench. However, he made a significant impact in European competition, scoring six goals in nine Conference League appearances to help Chelsea lift the trophy.
The Spanish youth international is highly rated and needs regular senior football to continue his development. A loan to Ipswich could offer just that — and if he adapts quickly, he could help fill the void left by Delap’s exit.
Given Guiu’s pedigree — having developed at Barcelona before joining Chelsea — his signing would carry clear upside. While still inexperienced, a temporary switch to Portman Road could be mutually beneficial for both the club and the player.
