Sunderland Close to Signing Club Brugge Star Chemsdine Talbi in €23m Deal

Sunderland are on the verge of completing another major transfer, with highly rated Belgian winger Chemsdine Talbi undergoing a medical ahead of a permanent switch from Club Brugge.

According to renowned transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the 19-year-old is currently finalising medical tests with the Black Cats after both clubs agreed on a €23 million deal (around £19.5 million including add-ons).

> “Chemsdine Talbi to Sunderland, here we go!” Romano confirmed on social media. “Medical right now for the Moroccan winger at #SAFC. Deal agreed with Club Brugge for €23m package, add-ons included. Documents being exchanged.”

Talbi is considered one of the top young prospects in Belgian football. He featured 43 times for Brugge last season across all competitions, scoring six goals, and gained further exposure in the Champions League and Belgian Super Cup.

Born in Belgium but eligible for Morocco, Talbi began his professional journey with Club NXT before making the jump to Brugge’s senior squad. He netted his first league goal in a 3–0 win over Kortrijk last September and made his Champions League debut shortly after against Borussia Dortmund.

Sunderland have been in talks with Brugge throughout the past week, initially tabling a bid of around £17 million. However, Romano’s latest report suggests the final figure, including bonuses, will push the total value to £19.5 million – potentially making Talbi one of the most expensive signings in Sunderland’s history.

This move highlights the club’s aggressive recruitment strategy following promotion to the Premier League. Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman and Head Coach Régis Le Bris are aiming to build a squad that blends youthful promise with top-flight experience.

Talbi would become Sunderland’s fifth major signing of the summer window, joining Enzo Le Fée, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, and Reinildo Mandava. He’s expected to compete for a starting role on the wing and bring pace, flair, and European experience to the side.

Reinildo Deal Close to Completion

In a separate transfer, Sunderland are finalising the signing of left-back Reinildo Mandava, with the 31-year-old expected to officially sign a two-year contract in Madrid on Monday.

A free agent since his exit from Atlético Madrid, the Mozambique international is set to begin the next chapter of his career in England. Transfer reporter Rudy Galetti provided an update via X (formerly Twitter):

> “Reinildo will officially sign his two-year contract with Sunderland on Monday in Madrid. The deal was fully agreed, as revealed days ago.”

Reinildo joined Atlético in early 2022 after helping Lille win the Ligue 1 title in 2020–21. He made 74 appearances during his time in Spain, featuring in La Liga, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the deal earlier this week, stating:

> “Reinildo to Sunderland, here we go! Two-year deal done for the left back set to join from Atlético Madrid.”
